Sillaro was founded in 1969 by a group of young entrepreneurs from Lodi, on the wave of the economic boom brought about as a result of the opening of the Lever factory in Casalpusterlengo.
The idea to produce containers for the detergents already produced by the multi-national giant soon came about; the first production of small drums began in what is now the historical factory of Borghetto Lodigiano; given that the work grew extensively throughout the 70’s, the owners decided to build a new and larger factory in Livraga (which is still the company premises today): in 1977, the new production site at the Livraga industrial estate employed 48 workers around 2 shifts, while a further 15 workers continued production at the factory in Borghetto Lodigiano. Around the end of the decade, the idea came about to directly manufacture the machines that had produced the drums for years; and so Reno Contenitori was founded in Bologna, a company that immediately took on a staff of a further 15 people and that now exports machines for drum production throughout the world, giving Sillaro an international edge.
The ‘80’s saw the affirmation of new plastic containers, with a radical change in trends; this element, associated with the need on the part of the detergent producing companies to save, led Sillaro to implement a change in its production strategy.
The production of kraft paper drums was introduced first and then, later on, in 1990, the cutter for cutting chipboard for use in the printing, graphics and packaging industries, was installed.
The company was reorganised with respect to its golden years, but the 2 new challenges undertaken continued, and within a few years, the company became one of the highest quality firms in both sectors.
Over the last few years, following a change in company management, a renewal and development strategy was implemented through the valorisation of the human resources present, new potential, the national and international markets and a new sales force.
